Lynx and the Forest Goddess ORIGINAL
Acrylic on canvas, 50 x 70 cm. (Fine art prints coming available soon!).
This artwork draws inspiration from Finnish folk mythology and the ancient symbolism of the forest. In Finnish tradition, Mielikki is known as the goddess of the forest, the mistress of the woods who protects animals, knows the healing plants, and guards the balance of the forest. She belongs to Finnish folk belief and to the mythic forest world known from the Kalevala.
Only the lynxes notice it. The Eurasian lynx is known for its sharp vision and quiet observation. In myths and folk stories the lynx has sometimes been regarded as an animal that can see through illusions -even through objects – and reveal hidden truths. In some European and Indigenous traditions, the lynx is also associated with the idea that it can sense the spirit world or hidden knowledge.
